Project Description

Estate Barns & Pool

Delaware Township, New Jersey

This three-building complex was seriously deteriorated. We rebuilt the central barn, retaining the three-sided stone section and reconstructing the wooden section. The barn now serves as entertainment space. The upper level is an open space, while the ground floor doubles as a garage or gallery. A glass wall opens out to the sunny courtyard. Two flanking wings were rebuilt and serve the 50-acre estate as a tractor shed and garage.

Once the barns were complete, we focused on the pool design. We fit the pool into a slope between the existing house and tennis court. To accommodate 11 feet of elevation change, we designed a series of stone retaining walls and stairways with the goal of minimizing required guardrails and optimizing the openness and views. The guardrails are of bronze.
